1. What these terms cover

These terms apply to your use of this website and to any quote you ask for through it. They are not the terms of hire. If you go ahead and book a bin, the terms for the hire itself are the ones we give you with your quote, and they are the ones that govern the job.

By using this website you accept what is on this page. If you do not, please do not use it.

2. The information on this site is general

We have tried to make the guides on this site genuinely useful, and everything on them is written in good faith. They are still general information about skip bins rather than advice about your particular job.

Bin sizes, the wheelie-bin comparisons and the guidance on what fits are indicative. What actually fits depends on what you are throwing out and how it is loaded. Nothing on this site is a promise about a specific outcome on a specific job.

3. Nothing on this site is a price

This site does not publish prices, and no page on it constitutes a quote or an offer. A price only exists once we have given you one for your job, in writing, after you have told us what you are throwing out and where.

A quote is based on what you describe. If the load turns out to be materially different to that, the price can change, and we will tell you rather than surprise you.

4. Council approval is yours to get

If a bin has to sit on a road, a footpath, a nature strip or any other public land, that normally needs approval from the relevant council. That approval is tied to the address and the person responsible for the site, so it is yours to apply for rather than ours.

The rules and the fees differ between the Hunter councils. We can tell you which council you are dealing with. We cannot tell you their rules, and nothing on this site should be read as doing so.

5. What you are responsible for

When you hire a bin from us, you agree to:

• Describe the load honestly, including anything heavy, wet or unusual in it
• Get any council approval needed before the bin is delivered
• Make sure the spot is clear and the surface will carry a loaded bin
• Keep the load level with the rim, because a heaped bin cannot be legally carried
• Stay within the weight allowance for the bin, which we will tell you when you book
• Keep prohibited material out of the bin entirely

6. Prohibited material

The following never goes in a skip bin, from us or from anyone else: asbestos, liquids, paint, solvents, chemicals, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, tyres, batteries, and medical or contaminated waste.

Asbestos in particular is licensed work with its own handling rules and requires a separate, licensed process. Do not put it in a bin, do not break it up to fit, and tell us if you think you have found some.

If prohibited material is found in a load, the cost of dealing with it properly is yours.

7. Weight, and charges on top of the quote

Every bin has a weight allowance as well as a size. Loads are weighed at the facility rather than on your driveway, so a load that is over is usually identified after collection, and the excess is charged in addition to the hire.

If a bin is obviously overloaded or heaped above the rim, it may not be able to be lifted at all, because the truck has a legal limit. In that case material has to come out before it can go.

8. This website itself

The text, images, structure and design of this site belong to Hunter Skips unless stated otherwise. You are welcome to read it, print it and link to it. You are not welcome to copy it wholesale onto another site.

Where we link to a council or another organisation, that is for your convenience. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for what is on them.

We try to keep this site available and accurate, but we do not promise it will never be offline or never contain a mistake. If you spot something wrong, tell us and we will fix it.

9. Your rights under Australian Consumer Law

Nothing on this page removes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be excluded by agreement.

Where we are permitted to limit our liability, the specific limits are set out in the hire terms provided with your quote rather than on this page.

10. Which law applies

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales.
