What can go in a skip bin
Most of it is simpler than people expect. There is a short list of material no skip can take, and after that it is a question of which bin you booked.
Never in any skip
- Asbestos
- Liquids
- Paint, solvents and thinners
- Chemicals, pesticides and pool chemicals
- Gas bottles and fire extinguishers
- Tyres
- Batteries, car and household
- Medical or contaminated waste
What goes in which bin

General and mixed waste
The default bin. Most household and renovation clear-outs are this.
- Furniture, shelving and general clutter
- Timber, plasterboard and old flooring
- Carpet, underlay and curtains
- Cardboard, packaging and general household clutter
Keep soil, brick and concrete out of it. Heavy material in a general bin is what pushes a load over its weight limit.

Vegetation only. Kept clean, it is handled separately to mixed waste.
- Branches, prunings and hedge trimmings
- Lawn clippings and leaves
- Shrubs, small stumps and palm fronds
- Weeds and garden beds pulled out whole
No soil, turf, pots, treated timber or bagged rubbish mixed in. One bag of household waste turns a green load into a mixed one.

Asbestos is never trade waste. If a job might disturb it, stop and get a licensed removalist in before the bin arrives.

Ask before you load it
A few common items need sorting out before the bin turns up rather than after. Fridges and air conditioners hold refrigerant gas, which has to be removed by a licensed technician before the unit can be scrapped. E-waste and mattresses usually go through their own streams instead of general waste. Treated timber cannot be mulched, so it never belongs in a green waste load. None of it is hazardous, but where it can go and what it costs depends on the facility, so tell us what you have when you enquire and we will tell you how it needs to go.
The short version
